Cancer at 13 – A True Story

Ladies, meet Maddison. She is a beautiful girl with a beautiful story that I would love for you to hear. I had the privilege of interviewing her and her mom, Cindy, for our monthly church magazine, Sagemont Life, and they said I could share their story here on the Glo Girl blog as well!

I know there is someone reading this right now who will really benefit from hearing how God has worked in Maddison’s life…

On the morning of May 25, 2011, 13-year-old Maddison Stafford woke up with a severe pain in the right side of her abdomen. Her mother, Cindy Cañas, figured it was probably just a woman-related issue and let her stay home from school that day. But even with Tylenol and rest, the pain did not go away, so Cindy decided to take her to the emergency room the following morning.

Cindy packed only what she needed for a typical day out of the house. She took a book, picked up some coffee, and mentally prepared herself for the list of ailments that could possibly be causing Maddison’s pain: gallbladder problems, menstruation, or worst case scenario, appendicitis.

Never in her wildest imagination did she entertain the notion that her 13-year-old daughter had cancer and that her pain was just the beginning of her battle with the devastating disease.

To continue Maddison’s story, “Total Surrender,” please read pages 8-10 of the May issue of Sagemont Life magazine.

Q: Do you know anyone suffering from cancer right now? Why don’t you share this post with them so that they can be encouraged by Maddison’s story as well!
