After six weeks of looking at what makes a great BFF (Biblical friend forever), I’d love to hear from you! Tell me about your BFF(s). What makes her so special? What is your favorite memory with her? How long have you known each other? What’s the most thoughtful thing she’s done for you? or How does God use her to bless you?
I shared a little bit about one of my BFFs, Sarah, and how she modeled friendship to me on the day before my wedding. Now I’d like to tell you about the other girls in my “inner circle” and show you an example of what happens when Christ remains the center of your friendship.
Years ago, one of my BFFs gave me a star-shaped candle holder similar to this one:
She said it reminded her of us. There are five of us in our little circle – me, Jen, Robin, Sarah and Jennifer, and we’ve been friends for over 15 years now. When Jennifer gave each of us the star candle, she said the five points on the star reminded her of the five of us, and the candle in the middle reminded her of God and how He remains the center of our friendships even though we all live hundreds of miles away from each other. Cheesy? Yes. Touching? Also, yes!
Several months later, I was sitting at my desk praying for the girls in my Sunday school class. My mind began to wander (remember how I told you I struggle with prayer?), and I saw a photo of Jennifer and started praying for her instead. I didn’t really have anything specific to pray for, so after a few minutes, I figured I’d better get back to my original intent, which was praying for the girls in my class. I went to my computer because that’s where I had the class’s prayer requests listed, and low and behold, there was an email message from Jennifer. It said:
I have an unusual prayer request. The last few days I have been struggling. I really don’t know why and can’t really explain how. (I guess the best way to put is I’m struggling spiritually, but there’s not anything specific I’m struggling with.) I’m not even sure what to ask pray for, but I just feel like I need to lay down my pride and ask for prayer. Clear as mud? That’s about the way that I feel about it… Love you…
I was deeply moved. The Holy Spirit specifically put Jennifer on my heart even before I knew she needed prayer. God truly does care about your friendships, and He can use BFFs in amazing ways to bless and encourage you! When you have BFFs, God works through you and in you even when you’re apart!
Q: Your turn! Tell me all about your BFF!

This is a study I love to come back to and reread, it’s so good. Thanks for writing it. When I think of my BFF’s it is such a gift that God gives them to us. I found myself in that group that was ‘complaining’ because I only had 4 BFF’s and through your study I came to understand it in a different light. Thank you! I love the ways God’s kids do that to draw us closer to Jesus and the truths of the Word. One of my favorite BFF’s has been a faithful prayer partner for the last 20 something years as we raised our babies, nurtured our kids, prayed through the teen years, prayed week by week for all the things that are part of ‘making our little disciples’ for Jesus. That prayer time has been such an inspiration over the years as God has answered prayers in miraculous and in simple ways. His presence in our prayer times is the most amazing thing ever! That’s a gift that only the ‘inner circle’ friends can enjoy. Being there through thick and thin as both of us our far away from our extended family has been such a treasure. And it all started with a prayer for help in learning how to disciple our children for Him. What a faithful, awesome, amazing prayer answering God we have
.
I came across this blog last week and this series on BFFs has been a huge blessing to the middle school girls I lead. Important lessons on friendship! Thanks!
