My boys were fighting. No surprise there. They crawled, climbed and kicked their way onto the recliner, each determined to claim prime real estate on my lap before the other. And in the midst of the chaos, for some reason that I cannot even remember now, my husband took a picture:
I honestly laughed when I saw the photo. Who could tell by our smiles that just three seconds before and three seconds after, we were in the middle of a screaming, name-calling, pushing and head-butting meltdown? After all, the split-second that was captured on film looks as if everything is fine and dandy!
But everything isn’t always fine and dandy, is it? Seeing this picture reminded me how little I can really know about a woman just by looking at her. Did she have a bad day today? Is her bank account laughing at her bills? Is she just days away from a life-changing diagnosis from her doctor? Has she cried in the last 24 hours? Is she even on speaking terms with God?
I may never know your “back story” and you may never know mine. We’ll meet together a few times a week through this blog and share a snapshot of each other’s lives, but then we’ll walk away from our computers and the real living begins. But my prayer is that somehow, through these sporadic cyber-meetings, you’ll be encouraged and equipped to trust God, to glorify Him, and to give Him priority.
Q: What is one thing about yourself, serious or silly, that no one would know just by looking at you?
