Today may or may not go as planned.
Your turkey may be dry. Your dressing may be too runny. Your brother-in-law may have too much eggnog. Your team may lose.
And with each disappointment, it may become harder and harder to remain thankful.
Might I remind you of this verse:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Phil. 4:6)
In every trial, there is an element worthy of thanksgiving. If your food is ruined, you can still be thankful that you don’t have to go to bed hungry tonight. If a family member embarrasses you, you can still be glad that you’re not alone today. If you don’t get what you want, you can be grateful that tomorrow is a new day.
Petitioning God while simultaneously giving thanks can be challenging sometimes. It takes practice. It takes focus. It takes creativity.
And sometimes, as Pollyanna shows us, it just takes a little spunk!
